COVID-19 Health & Safety Plan for Midas Paints.
The Worldwide pandemic, Covid-19 has changed the way we work and socialize, and the spread of this disease needs to be halted to prevent more infections and deaths in South Africa.
Construction sites are a high-risk environment for the spread of the virus based on the fact there are numerous people working in relatively close contact on sites most of the time. It is imperative that all employers and employees put measures in place to manage the spread of the disease on construction sites in South Africa. The protocols set out below addresses the requirements for contractors to prevent the spread of the disease on site and to manage persons infected on site. If the spread of Covid-19 is not halted and infections occur on a particular site, a very real chance exists that the site could be shut down by the DEL until the site is declared safe. To this end it is in the best interest of all contractors to have the appropriate measures in place in anticipation of the opening of sites and the continuous management of the spread of the disease. Contractors will have to consider employing people to act as Covid-19 protocol monitors to ensure continuous compliance particularly the eating areas and toilet facilities.
All sub-contractor must remember that they too are employers and are thus responsible for the health and safety of their own employees and to this end are required to provide their employees with the required PPE and of course training. Sub-contractors will remain responsible for ensuring that their employees are healthy before sending them to site.Sub-contractors will also be required to produce safety documentation describing their own protocols to manage the spread of the virus amongst their own employees and will still be subject to the requirements of the PC.
This document serves to assist contractors to put measures in place to manage and stop the spread of the COVID-19 on construction sites.
