Alcolin Water Based Epoxy Floor Paint
Alcolin Water Based Epoxy Floor Paint: Protective water-based top coat (water based epoxy floor paint) for cement-based and self-levelling screeds, interior use, abrasion and chemical resistant floor paint. Also suitable as a primer for polyurethane and acrylic coating.
Alcolin Water Based Epoxy Floor Paint is a 2-component epoxy floor paint system, curing to a hard wearing, abrasion hardy and chemical resistant semi-gloss finish. This interior water-based floor paint is easy to clean, making it ideal for sealing of cementitious floors in high traffic areas such as warehouse, indoor parking facilities, factory and residential garage floors. Alcolin Water Based Epoxy Paint’s produces a low odour on curing making this floor paint suitable to be used in sensitive zones such as hospitals and certain food processing plants.
1:1 mixing ratio (by volume) – easy to use.
2 Containers are found in the floor paint box. The product is a 1:1 mix, NOTE 1 tin is smaller (component A), been designed for the contents of the smaller container to be poured into the larger container (component B) to mix.
Surface Preparation for Water Based Epoxy Floor Paint
All Surfaces must be firm and free of flaking paint, dust, mould oil, grease, polish and organic growth.
• Smooth, hard surfaces such as power floated and off shutter concrete, must acid etched or mechanically abraded prior to application to ensure a sound key for the paint.
• Acid etched surfaces must be neutralised with a solution of ammonia and water prior to application of the paint.
• Friable and chalking surfaces should be primed with a coat of Alcolin Permokey Slurry Kit and treated with at least a 3mm coating of Alcolin Z100 / Z101 floor screed.
• Old painted surfaces must be mechanically abraded and all the paint removed.
• Dry surfaces should be lightly dampened with water, and painted with a coating of epoxy paint diluted with 10-15% water (approx. 500ml water for 5L epoxy mix).
• Surfaces must be free of standing water prior to application of the paint.
Adhesion:
Bonds to a variety of substrates such as masonry, concrete, damp concrete, metal and stone.
Application:
The process is rather simple as seen from the photos taken on site. Firstly, we sanded some bad areas to remove excess laitance and residue.
Vacuum the floor and removed excess dust and flakes.
Mask the perimeter.
Mix component A, pour into component B container and mix for 5 minutes, adding 10 – 15% water (500ml -750ml) until homogenous, there must be no streaks in the paint. Use a paint brush to do cutting in around the perimeter of the room. Apply the diluted prime coat of epoxy using short pelt mohair roller. Allow to dry and repeat the process using mixed but undiluted material. A thin coat can be done if required.
Its important to note that being a twin pack polyamide cured epoxy, the setting time will vary depending on the temperature, the colder it is the longer the product takes to set off, the hotter it is the faster the product will set off – if the temperature drops below 5 degrees c the product will stop curing until the temperature increases.
