We survived another year, together…
South Africa is a movie; it is a drama. Every day is a new episode. Twists, turns and cliffhangers that even the best scriptwriters couldn’t dream up. And yet, here we are, still standing, still showing up, still painting brighter tomorrows.
Every December, as I sit down to write this message, I reflect back on the past year and say, “Wow… how the hell did we survive that?”
And every year, we do, somehow, some way, through the chaos, the load shedding, all the commissions, the uncertainty and the heartbreak, we find the strength to keep going.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: never tell life it can’t get crazier, it can’t get worse…because it can.
Stronger. Smarter. More resilient. That’s who we are…
We know this year (and the last several) has tested us all. We’ve lost loved ones, security and opportunities. We’ve faced storms that shook the foundations of families, businesses and communities; to each of you weathering your own storms, we see you and we feel you.
Yet amidst the darkness, we’ve also witnessed extraordinary light. The South African spirit, that beautiful blend of grit, humour, and heart, continues to shine through. We’ve watched businesses rebuild, teams rally and communities unite. We’ve seen kindness where it’s least expected and courage where it’s most needed.
This festive season, may we pause to reflect, to reconnect, and to rebound.
Let’s remember that while we’re not all in the same boat, we are most certainly in the same storm. And together, we can illuminate the path toward a prosperous future.
As the global winds shift and uncertainty lingers, let us hold fast to the constants that matter most, hope, humanity and each other. The true spirit of the season isn’t found in gifts, but in presence, compassion and the unwavering belief that we will rise again.
