The Midas Paints Tygervalley’s Steracon Byotrol Decontamination System was developed in association with microbiologists in response to a growing need for antimicrobial, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal coatings that offer effective protection against a variety of microbial, fungal agents. Midas Paints Tygervalley is proud to offer the Steracon Byotrol Decontamination System which is a highly specialised range of products all containing Byotrol™ – an anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-microbial additive with an active ingredient that repels microbial, bacterial, fungal agents and other potentially harmful microbes by working directly as a fast-acting biocide at low temperatures. Its polymer structure is believed to create nano-surface tension differences that inhibit microbial attachment.

The range of paints and decontamination solutions is supplied by Midas Paints, the application is independently managed and monitored by Qualytech. A 3-year warranty is supplied – extendable indefinitely with a maintenance contract.
BYOTROL™ combines a physical effect with an array of biocides for chemical control. BYOTROL™ contains non-chemical bonds which create a high & low surface tension on the coated surfaces or bio-film. Bio-film severely impedes microorganisms’ ability to reproduce and grow. Microbes reproduce by division, but this process needs to take place on a stable surface. Attachment to a surface is prevented, the bacterium cannot reproduce. BYOTROL gives the surface of the coating a higher vibrational energy, ensuring that harmful microbes do not settle on it and proliferate. In turn, this makes the micro-organisms more vulnerable to the small amount of biocides contained in the coating, which together builds an effective hygienic shield.
Steracon is ideal for commercial and medical environments, such as Tuberculosis(TB) Wards, High Care Units, Surgical Wards, abattoirs, hospitals, wine production facilities and any other areas that need protection against harmful microbes.
Steracon is also widely used in domestic environments to clean and hygienic and is more and more frequently being specified for bathrooms, saunas, showers and exterior walls that get no sunlight, these types of environments have a tendency to accumulate fungal growth.
Steracon Byotrol Decontamination System includes the following products:
1) Decontamination Solution
2) Solvent Based Masonry Primer
3) Sheen Finishing coat.
All 3 products above have been certified as free of Organo halogens making them safe to be used in wineries.
Note that Byotrol™ carries SABS 1853 approval as well as meeting numerous European and International standards of quality and safety.
Byotrol™ is environmentally friendly and carries no danger for humans since its physical and chemical effect is targeted at the microscopic level.
Application of Anti-bacterial, Anti-fungal, Anti-microbial Decontamination Solution:
Apply Byotrol Decontamination Anti-bacterial, Anti-fungal, Anti-microbial Decontamination Solution using a brush or hand spray depending on the area and extent of fungal growth.
- Apply a coat of Decontamination Solution liberally taking care not to damage the microbial growth. Allow to penetrate and take effect for 6 hours.
- Scrub the surface thoroughly with water.
- Apply a coat of Decontamination Solution and allow to dry before over-coating.
Points 1 and 3 might need to be repeated for heavy growth.
IMPORTANT: No dilution is required.
Application of Steracon Masonry Primer
Thoroughly stir and apply 1 coat of Masonry Primer if required to prepared surfaces using a brush or roller at the stipulated spread rates.
Allow drying before over-coating.
Steracon Colour Range Anti-bacterial, Anti-fungal, Anti-microbial Decontamination Solution.
Application of Steracon Low Sheen Finishing coat.
Thoroughly stir and apply a minimum of 2 coats of Low Sheen to prepared surfaces using a brush or roller at the stipulated spread rates.
Allow drying before over-coating.
PLEASE NOTE: Correct preparation is essential. All surfaces must be sound and prepared in the recommended manner.

NOTE: The spread rates quoted are approximate and should only be used as a guide as the actual rate will vary depending on the condition and porosity of the substrate.
OVERCOATING TIME
Decontamination Solution ->6 hrs
Masonry Primer->12hrs
Low Sheen Finishing Coat->6hrs
NOTE: It is very important that over-coating times, as set out for the various products, are adhered to and also that the prevailing weather conditions are taken into account. Ambient and substrate temperatures, humidity and wind etc. can influence drying times of all coatings. Performance problems can occur if any of the previous coats have not been allowed to dry properly before being over-coated. CLEANERS/SOLVENTS
Water: IMPORTANT: To prevent surface contamination, coatings must not be left longer than 48 hours between coats. If environmental or weather conditions have caused surface contamination, all surfaces must be thoroughly washed down before applying the next coating.
