Environmentally Sustainable Painting Industry

Midas Paints Tygervalley’s first innovation prior to water restrictions was the development of our own Envirowash Machine. We believe that producing ZERO VOC paint is not good enough to be Environmentally Sustainable and a holistic approach to protecting the environment is needed. We took our commitment to a sustainable environment one step further by introducing the Grey Rain Water Tanks Project and Water Rescue Greywater System.

With Level 6 Water Restrictions in place in Cape Town, special permission is required to use water for high-pressure washing which is critical to the success of a paint job. There are other methods of surface cleaning such as mechanical abrasion or sanding, but this is extremely costly, labour, and time intensive, e.g. imagine trying to sand by hand an entire block of flats in Sea Point?

The disposal system ensures that paint waste and residues from application systems are managed and disposed of in a safe, responsible manner at a registered disposal agency.

Grey Rain Water Tanks Project:

The other Environmentally Sustainable innovation is that Midas Paints Tygervalley started harvesting rainwater from factory roofs. Managing Director Sean Rack: “there are hundreds of thousands of square meters of catchment areas on factory roofs that just gets washed down the drains, we have encouraged our contractor clients to buy water storage tanks from us to conserve water for high-pressure washing and building maintenance.
We harvest rainwater from our warehouse roof in Parow and supply this water to our contractors with water who need to high-pressure wash.
