More Than Just Paint: Midas Paints Paarl Brushes Up on Community Spirit”.
We at Midas Paints Paarl, have the great pleasure of supplying paint for a great social cause, The Langrug Soup Kitchen. In collaboration FAR ABOVE Painters who worked late into the night to make sure everything was ready for the next day’s food preparation.
As a family-run business, a family that has a long record of community work, we take our social responsibilities seriously in the local communities where we operate. Moulded on the success of the Rack family stable of businesses, Midas Paints Paarl, carries on our family tradition of love of community. Our father, his father before him, … this is our lineage liberally splashed with paint. Midas Paints Paarl is more than just the continuation of our family tradition. It runs far deeper. It is a passion… one that has been nurtured and mastered through three generations, drawn the respect of an exacting paint industry and lovingly been shared with our customers who have, through the years become our friends.
So from sharing secrets about which paint will last longest or creating a special shade just for you, to dropping by to lend a hand with your planning and renovations, nothing is too much effort because here at Midas Paints Paarl we’re committed to two things – our craft, and sharing it with you.
The Langrug Soup Kitchen:
The Langrug Soup Kitchen is a community scheme that has been operational for almost 10 years. We are based at Batho’s Place in Langrug, Franschhoek, Western Cape. Every Saturday the Soup Kitchen prepares a meal of chicken, rice and vegetable soup for 300 Children in the informal settlement of Langrug in Franschhoek. It costs R2500 every week and we need R130000 to operate throughout the year. The children we serve are some of the most vulnerable in the area, some are HIV+ or have TB. Many rely on the local school feeding schemes for their food but at the weekend these are not available. This meal maybe the only food they have all weekend.
We also help pensioners who are in need.
We rely totally on donations to operate.
Through these donations, we can ensure that children do not go to bed hungry.
We can ensure that stomachs are full so life saving medication can be taken.
Funds will be used to purchase food, gas for cooking and cleaning supplies to ensure that our children receive a hot, nutritious meal every Saturday.

We had an amazing surprise this morning, to find that the building had been painted. Huge thanks to the team at Midas Paints Paarl for supplying all the paint and to the painters from FAR ABOVE Painters who apparently worked late in to the night to make sure everything was done so we could cook for the children. The place looks amazing!
The other talking point of the day was of course the heat. It was like an oven inside today. Thank you to Steven Van Hoof for donating two huge fans which brought us some relief.
We were blessed with an amazing team of volunteers so we could get the children served and out of the sun as quickly as possible. Thanks to Bhura, Gloria, Patricia, Victoria, Siphokazi, Andisiwe, Bhere, Nkosi and Simphewe who started preparing the food before 07:00. They were joined by Bridge House School students
Greta Goedvolk, Jana Joergensen, Roos van der Meijden and her parents Claudia and Robert, and Liam and McKenzie Haayer and their mother Kellie. We were also joined by Wilco and Marion Beekwilder who are visiting from the Netherlands.
Thanks to all these wonderful people helping to feed children in really difficult conditions
